What is an FFL Transfer?

Federal law requires that all firearms be transferred through a licensed Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer. When you purchase a firearm online from another retailer, it must be shipped to a licensed dealer like Missouri Mile Shooting Ranch, where you will complete the required paperwork and background check before taking possession.

How the Transfer Process Works

What to Bring

• Valid Government-Issued Photo ID - Driver's license, state ID, or passport
• Proof of Residency - If your ID address differs from current address (utility bill, bank statement, etc.)
• Payment for Transfer Fee - Cash, credit, or debit card accepted
• Concealed Carry Permit (optional) - May expedite the NICS check in some cases

Requirements

• Must be 18+ for long guns, 21+ for handguns
• Must be a Missouri resident (or present with valid hunting license for long guns)
• Must pass NICS background check
• Must not be prohibited from possessing firearms under federal or state law
• Must complete ATF Form 4473 accurately and truthfully

Background Check Delays

Most background checks are completed immediately. However, some may result in a "Delay" status. If this occurs:

• The FBI has up to 3 business days to make a determination
• If no response after 3 business days, the transfer may proceed at our discretion
• We will contact you as soon as we receive a determination

Denied Transfers

If your background check is denied, you will not be able to take possession of the firearm. The firearm must be returned to the seller or transferred to another eligible person. Transfer fees are non-refundable in the case of a denial.

Storage & Abandoned Firearms

We will hold your firearm for up to 30 days at no additional charge. After 30 days, a storage fee of $5 per day may apply. Firearms not picked up within 90 days will be considered abandoned and disposed of in accordance with federal and state law.
